95% of states can’t pay N30,000 minimum wage – Ebonyi Gov

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Wednesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, declared that 95 per cent of states in the country cannot pay the proposed N30,000 minimum wage to workers. Mr Umahi, who is Chairman of South East Governors Forum, said this while inaugurating a 36-member fact-finding committee to ascertain the mode of workers’ promotion arrears payment in states across the six geo-political zones of the states. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said he was committed to ensuring that the nation’s workers get a new minimum wage as soon as possible. Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) says the army cannot face its members if they had weapons. Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called off the nationwide industrial action initially scheduled to commence today to further press for workers’ demand for new national minimum wage. Buhari quietly appoints son-in-law as head of Border Agency

President Muhammadu Buhari has quietly appointed his son-in-law as head of Nigeria’s Border Communities Development Agency. Mr Junaid Abdullahi, a retired Army captain, assumed duties at the agency on a low-key on October 18. Presidential panel has no powers to prosecute suspects, seize properties - Appeal court

Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has voided the powers of Presidential Panel on Assets Recovery to prosecute alleged offenders or obtain forfeiture orders for assets belonging to fraud suspects. A five-member panel of the appellate court, led by Mr Hussein Muhktar, ruled that the panel is not empowered to approach the court with any application, relating to the prosecution of a suspect investigated by the panel. Traffic diversion on Lagos-Ibadan expressway commences today

Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) says there will be a 2km traffic diversion from Magboro to Ibafo on Lagos-Ibadan expressway starting from Tuesday. Nigeria Labour Congress has said it will no longer enter into any negotiation with the government on a minimum wage for workers. Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike. An official of the union, Mr Ben Ugwoke from University of Abuja, confirmed the development Sunday night.
