4 South South PDP govs meet Buhari: Here’s what they discussed behind closed door

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in the Presidential Villa held a closed-door meeting with four of the six South-south governors. The meeting which held between 3 and 4p.m., was attended by Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta). We can’t pay more than N22,500 as minimum wage, govs declare

Governors have announced that states can only afford to raise national minimum wage from N18,000 to N22,500 as against N30,000 being demanded by organised labour. Governors said this after an emergency meeting of Nigeria Governors’ Forum in Abuja late on Tuesday. This was even as Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress held nationwide peaceful protests to sensitise Nigerians to the planned national strike scheduled to begin on November 6. Widespread blackout as power generation drops to 2,390MW

Power generation in the country plunged to 2,390.20 megawatts on Monday as number of idle power plants rose from seven to 15, according to latest data from Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. Total electricity generation has been hovering below 4,000MW in recent months and stood at 3,741.30MW as of 6am on Sunday. The nation generates most of its electricity from gas-fired power plants, while output from hydropower plants makes up about 30 per cent of the total. WAEC to allow registration 24 hours before exams

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will soon conduct the first series of the West African Senior School certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. This was made known in a press statement by spokesperson of the council, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu The statement also said the examination will be conducted between January and February, 2019. Many dead as Shi’ites clash with soldiers, police in Abuja

Hell was let loose yesterday in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) overpowered police operatives who had been preventing them from gaining access into Abuja and engaged troops of the Guards Brigade in a shootout. Army kills 5 Shi’ite members in Abuja

Five members of Shiite Islamic sect were killed yesterday during a clash with the military in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council of Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Federal goverment has introduced a fine of $200 and $4000 dollars on visitors to Nigeria who overstayed their time as permitted by their visas. This in a bid to monitor movements of foreigners in Nigeria. FG bans unauthorised use of drones, broadcast equipment
