Foreigners living abroad will be allowed to join Britain's Armed Forces, the government is set to announce. Currently, citizens from Commonwealth countries can only join if they have lived in the UK for five years. But in a bid to recruit more servicemen and women to the Army, Navy and Air Force, the Ministry of Defence is lifting this rule. The Armed Forces is short of 8,200 soldiers, sailors and air personnel, a report found earlier this year. It is the worst shortage since 2010, said the independent government watchdog, the National Audit Office. Cap on foreigners liftedMinisters are expected…
Outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, has cautioned Nigerians seeking visas to UK to avoid presenting forged documents. Arkwright warned that anyone caught flouting the rule would be denied entry into UK for at least 10 years. “I know there is a feeling in Nigeria that we refuse visas more often than we accept them. That is not the case. “We are not trying to keep Nigerians out but it is important Nigerians stick to the rules when they are there in the same way that you in Nigeria would expect British people to obey the rules…

North Korea has warned it could revive a state policy aimed at strengthening its nuclear arsenal if United States does not lift economic sanctions against the country. The statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Friday evening said North Korea could bring back its “pyongjin” policy of simultaneously advancing its nuclear force and economic development if the United States doesn’t change its stance. The North sopped short of threatening to abandon ongoing nuclear negotiations with Washington. Still, it accused Washington of derailing commitments made by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump at their June summit in…
Trump administration on Friday restored U.S. sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, but carved out exemptions for eight countries that can still import oil from the Islamic Republic without penalty. The sanctions take effect Monday and cover Iran’s shipping, financial and energy sectors. They are the second batch the administration has re-imposed since Trump withdrew from the landmark accord in May. The 2015 deal, one of former President Barack Obama’s biggest diplomatic achievements, gave Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program, which many believed it was…

President Muhammadu Buhari has met with former Department of State Services (DSS) Director-General, Mr Lawal Daura. Last weekend’s Aso Villa meeting is said to be in connection with a report on the August 7, 2018 invasion of National Assembly by hooded DSS operatives. It was also gathered that the meeting centered on the resurgence of Boko Haram insurgency in some parts of Northeast. The options before the President are either to close Daura’s chapter on the invasion or re-engage him in the light of what some have considered an intelligence deficit in fight against Boko Haram and the seeming ethno-religious…
