FAAC: Federal, states, LGAs share N619.85bn

Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) on Wednesday disclosed that the three arms of government shared N619.857 as March revenue from funds generated in February. Speaking at the event, Account-General of the Federation, Mr Idris Ahmed, represented by Director of Funds, Mr Mohammed Usman disclosed that gross statutory revenue received was N478.434 billion. The sum is lower than the N505.246 billion received the previous month by N26.812 billion. Power outage to continue as Gencos say no incentive to increase generation

As households and businesses continue to lament the nation’s electricity woes, power generation companies in the country have said there is no incentive for them to increase output from their plants. Gencos said their total generation capacity rose to 7,383.04 megawatts in 2018 from 4,214.32MW in 2013, when the power sector was privatised by Federal Government. Total power generation, which plunged to 2,938.5MW last Wednesday, rose to 4,305.5MW as of 6am on Monday, according to data from Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of Transmission Company of Nigeria. FG, ASUU resume negotiations on 2009 agreement

Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday resumed talks on the 2009 agreement. Mr Wale Babalakin, Chairman, Federal Government Re-negotiation team, while briefing journalists in Abuja, after a meeting that lasted six hours said he was hopeful the meeting would yield positive results. Half of Nigerian adults plan to leave country – Report

Almost half of Nigerian adults have indicated their willingness to leave the country in the next five years, a survey conducted by US- based research firm, Pew Research Center, has revealed. Nigeria loses about 350,999 hectares of land to drought and desertification every year, Nigerian Meteorological Agency announced on Tuesday. According to NiMet, many parts of the country experience dry spell/drought periodically. The agency listed the areas as Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno and Yobe states. Carleton University has announced a memorial fund in honour of Mr Pius Adesanmi, a Nigerian-born academic whose death on March 10 has continued to elicit tributes from all corners. Adesanmi, a professor, died in the Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed shortly after take-off from Addis Ababa penultimate Sunday, all the remaining 156 passengers and crew were killed alongside the professor.
