Buhari makes 30 new appointments for RMAFC

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a list containing 30 names to Senate for confirmation into Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). RMAFC was established by Decree No.49 of 1989 (now an Act of National Assembly) to handle revenue allocation and fiscal matters on a continuous basis. However, Decree No.49 of 1989 was later amended by Decree No.99 of 1993 (now RMAFC Act Cap R7 LFN 2004). The Commission was thus re-named Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Section 153(1) as one of the Fourteen (14) Federal Executive Bodies.…

Buhari appoints acting Chair for NPC

Mr Hassan Bashiru has been appointed as acting Chairman for National Population Commission (NPC). Director, Public Affairs Department of NPC, Mr Mohammed Isah, made this known on Friday in Abuja. According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Bashiru on January 23. Isah explained that the acting Chairman was the most senior of the federal commissioners. Bashiru, a certified professional accountant, represents Bauchi State, NPC spokesperson said. Tenure of the former Chairman of the commission, Mr Eze Duruiheoma, lapsed on January 23, after five years of service. NAN

INEC extends PVC collection deadline

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended deadline for collection of permanent voters cards (PVC) by three days. Collection of PVCs was scheduled to end on Friday, February 8. The agency has now extended it to Monday, February 11. INEC Chairman, Mr Mahmoud Yakubu, said the decision was as a result of complaints received by the agency. He spoke at the opening of a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) in Abuja on Friday. Sultan of Sokoto, Mr Muhammad Abubakar (III), on Friday in Maiduguri, Borno State, led 20 emirs to commission the city’s Central Mosque. Nigerian Army has said it will be deploying 95 per cent of its troops to engage in security duties during the forthcoming elections. Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended a strike it commenced three months ago. The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from today, February 8. Suspension of the strike was announced Thursday evening after a meeting between ASUU leadership and a government delegation led by labour minister, Mr Chris Ngige. ASUU delegation was led by its president, Mr Biodun Ogunyemi, who announced suspension of the strike. At the meeting, a memorandum of action was signed by the two parties.
