At least five people were killed and more than a dozen injured on Thursday after several explosions near an air force base in Maiduguri, ahead of a visit by President Muhammadu Buhari, residents and a hospital source said. More than 70 travellers have been reportedly abducted along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State. According to Channels Television, the incident occurred around Udawa village after Buruku in Chikun Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday. A gang of kidnappers has abducted two Islamic clerics after taking time to eat at their residence at Ayetoro in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Thirty eight (38) persons have been killed in an attack by bandits on several villages in Giwa LGA of Kaduna state. In a statement on Sunday, Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the attacks were reported to the state government by the military and police authorities. Gunmen on Saturday attacked a police checkpoint at the Idemili-Obosi Interchange on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Anambra State, killing two policemen and burning the cops’ patrol vehicle.
