President Muhammadu Buhari has said insurgents are able to attract members to their fold because of what he called the “insidious preaching” of extremist clerics. Speaking in Jordan yesterday at a security meeting hosted by King Abdullah II, Mr Buhari called for an action plan to halt the trend. Buhari also urged leaders, especially from the Muslim world, to speak up against the hateful violence committed by deranged people in the name of Islam. “All nations, irrespective of religion should partner effectively in implementing national, regional and global action plans to counter violent extremism,” the president said. He reiterated Nigeria’s…
Renowned journalist, columnist and administrator, Mr Adetola Adeniyi, in this interview speaks on why 2019 general election should not be conducted without the country being restructured, how years of Fulani hegemony has brought the country to its kneels. Excerpts: You’re one of the strong voices calling on the government of Nigeria to address the national question. And the national question is giving power to the people, including the minority in the country wherever they are. Why have you been so tenacious in your call to the government and people of Nigeria to address the national question? I have been so…

At least 60 members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in different parts of the country died as a result of “frivolous journeys” in the last one year. NYSC Director-General (DG), Mr Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, said this at the weekend while addressing corps members during his official visit to NYSC permanent orientation camp at Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State. He urged them to be security conscious in any environment they find themselves…
President Muhammadu Buhari was banned from entering United States because Americans had reservations about his religious views, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said. Critics have long accused Mr. Buhari of holding religious views antithetical to modern democratic principles, a charge the president has repeatedly rejected. In 2001, Buhari drew nationwide backlash when he was quoted as declaring support for the Islamic doctrine of Shari’a and calling on Muslims to only vote for their fellow Muslims during elections. The president challenged the report saying he was quoted out of context. He has also repeatedly denied being an extremist, saying he tolerates…

Buhari never banned from U.S - Presidency

PRESS RELEASE Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, claims in an interview published Saturday that "for about 15 years, Buhari could not enter America on account of religious considerations." This fictive concoction being passed off as truth is mind boggling, coming from a former Number Two man of Nigeria, who should know the truth. At no time was President Buhari, as a private person, ever forbidden from entering any country in the world. Rather, the rest of the world has always held Muhammadu Buhari as a man of sterling qualities, strong on integrity, transparency and accountability. The same testimony is still…

In its latest foreign travel advice to British nationals, the country’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office stated that it would raise the terrorism threat alert in Nigeria during the festive periods. Around 117,000 British citizens visit Nigeria each year, according to the FCO. US government warned its citizens not to travel to Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa and Yobe till the end of the year. “The risk of terrorist attack increases around religious festivals; so…
Borno state government has a plan for the northeast, torn apart by eight years of conflict with Boko Haram: displaced people will be housed in fortified garrison towns, ringed by farms, with the rest of the countryside effectively left to fend for itself. The vision for the state of Borno, ground zero for the war with the Islamist insurgency, is a stark admission of the reality in the northeast. For two years, the military and government have said Boko Haram is all but defeated, and the remnants are being mopped up. But the military is largely unable to control territory…

Since they broke into the Nigerian music scene about three years ago, talented duo known as FTK have captured the imagination of lovers of popular contemporary music, who have responded to their energetic beat and on-stage presence with enthusiasm. Their music is also a regular feature of radio airwaves, as well as online. When something is nice, as someone once said, you play it twice. FTK, which is short for Falobi Taiwo & Kehinde, is composed of twins who – in their other life – are both undergraduates of Mass Communications at Babcock University. Their double-barreled virtuosity is complemented by…
