EFCC lacks powers to prosecute serving judges - Court of Appeal

Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has ruled that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission does not have powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officers except where such officers have been dismissed by National Judicial Council. The judgment was delivered in a suit between EFCC and a judge of the Federal High Court, Hydiazira Nganjiwa. The appellate court’s decision overturned the earlier decision of a high court in Lagos. Many serving judges including from the Supreme Court are currently being prosecuted for corruption by EFCC. PT

Bad weather disrupts flights across Nigeria

The prevailing hazy weather over major parts of the country has continued to disrupt flight operations, especially in the southern part of the country. Saudi Arabia to allow cinemas to reopen from early 2018

Saudi Arabia has announced it will lift a ban on commercial cinemas that has lasted more than three decades.The ministry of culture and information said it would begin issuing licences immediately and that the first cinemas were expected to open in March 2018. The measure is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 social and economic reform programme. An Ethiopian international flight which could not land at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu on Sunday due to bad weather was forced to make a quick u-turn and flew back to Ethiopia. Iraq declares war with Islamic State is over

Iraq has announced that its war against so-called Islamic State (IS) is over. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border. After boycott, FG, states, LGs share N532.7bn

The Federal, States and Local Government in October shared N532.7 billion which shows a decline of N25.3 billion when compared to what they shared in September. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, Mr Mahmoud Isa-Dutse, said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of the monthly Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC. NJC recommends Justice Ademola for sack, rejects his resignation

National Judicial Council has rejected Justice Adeniyi Ademola’s purported notice of retirement saying he has already been recommended for compulsory retirement.
