Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has ruled that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission does not have powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officers except where such officers have been dismissed by National Judicial Council. The judgment was delivered in a suit between EFCC and a judge of the Federal High Court, Hydiazira Nganjiwa. The appellate court’s decision overturned the earlier decision of a high court in Lagos. Many serving judges including from the Supreme Court are currently being prosecuted for corruption by EFCC. PT

Bad weather disrupts flights across Nigeria

The prevailing hazy weather over major parts of the country has continued to disrupt flight operations, especially in the southern part of the country. The disruption has led to flight cancellations by many airlines.The cancellations in many airports across the country began last Thursday. Saudi Arabia has announced it will lift a ban on commercial cinemas that has lasted more than three decades.The ministry of culture and information said it would begin issuing licences immediately and that the first cinemas were expected to open in March 2018. The measure is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 social and economic reform programme. Iraq declares war with Islamic State is over

Iraq has announced that its war against so-called Islamic State (IS) is over. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border.
