Buhari returns to Abuja from London two days ahead of schedule

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after two weeks in London on a private visit. Mr Buhari arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 9:45 p.m. on board a presidential jet. Nigerian Air Force helicopter crashes in Enugu

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed crash landing of its helicopter on Thursday at its base in Enugu. A statement on Friday via NAF’s Twitter handle, said the incident occurred after a routine flight and that though the blades of the helicopter broke but there were no casualties. Border closure: Nigeria, Benin, Niger set up committee to recommend reopening date

Nigeria, Republic of Benin and Niger have established a joint border patrol team comprising the Police, Customs, Immigration of the tripartite countries to recommend a date for reopening of the nation’s borders. FG to MTN, glo, others: Stop stealing money from telephone subscribers via automatic voicemail

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr Isa Pantami, has ordered Nigerian Communication Commission to deactivate automatic voicemail on existing phone lines. This is contained in a statement on Thursday and signed by the minister’s spokesperson, Mr Uwa Suleiman. According to the statement, subscribers are given an option to activate voicemail via a code. Lagos, Kano, Ogun, others get new police commissioners

Acting Commissoner of Police Olusegun Odumosu has been appointed to head Lagos Police Command. Odumosu, who was in charge of security in the Presidential Taskforce on Apapa congestion, would take over headship of Lagos police from Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zubeiru Muazu. Hate Speech bill ‘not necessary’, says Minister

The hate speech bill currently before Senate is unnecessary, Minister of State for Transportation, Ms Gbemisola Saraki, has said. Saraki said the CyberCrime Act already has provisions and penalties for hate speech. While FG imposes more taxes on ordinary Nigerians, multi-billion Naira pipeline operators are charged just N50 for licences

Sixty-three years after the Oil Pipelines Act came into force, the country has continued to charge a meagre N50 for licences to operate pipeline networks worth $4.6 million. Verification from Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) showed that over 85 per cent of the networks are in the hands of the private sector, while the rest, basically used to transport products, resides with the government. While Nigeria has approximately 15,000 kilometres of pipeline network, constructing a kilometre costs as much as $4.6 million. Abuja-Kaduna-Kano pipeline has a length of 614km. Nigeria has highest number of deaths by pneumonia in the world - Report

With an estimated 162,000 children that reportedly died of pneumonia in Nigeria in 2018, the country has been said to have the highest number of pneumonia deaths globally. A new report by Save the Children revealed that globally, 802,000 children under the age of five died from pneumonia in 2018 and five of the countries are responsible for more than half of the deaths.
