Senate yesterday passed the 2020 budget, approving NIO.59 trillion as aggregate expenditure.The approved figure is N263.946 billion higher than the N10.330 trillion presented to National Assembly for consideration and approval by President Muhammadu Buhari in October. A breakdown of the budget figure as approved by Senate indicates N560.4 billion for statutory transfers, N4.84 trillion for recurrent expenditure, capital expenditure provision of N2.46 trillion and N2.72 trillion for debt servicing. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) under the auspices of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF). State Security Service (SSS) on Thursday night released Mr Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters. Sowore was arrested on August 3 for planning a series of protests to demand good governance. Sowore first met his bail conditions on November 6, one month ago, but he was not released. A federal judge, on Thursday morning, gave 24 hours for Sowore to be released. The new Kano Emirates Council Bill, creating four additional emirates in the state, was yesterday signed by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at Coronation Hall, government house, Kano. Detained leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim El Zakzaky has been transferred to Kaduna correctional centre from the custody of Department of state services where he had been held for several months.
