In what observers described as a daring raid, bandits in broad daylight killed 10 persons and abducted 24 others in attacks carried out yesterday on communities in Niger State. This is coming as the state government has confirmed the killing by bandits of the village head of Kusherki in Rafi Local Government Area, Masud Abubakar and the abduction of his wife. Kaduna State Government on Saturday said three passengers were killed by suspected bandits around Yakowa village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in the state, made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday night in Kaduna. Aruwan said security agencies reported the attack on a commercial vehicle around Yakwo village in Chikun Local Government Area. Eighteen passengers on board one of the buses of Niger State Transport Authority have been kidnapped by bandits. The attack was said to have occurred around Yakila village in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state. It was learnt that the bandits left a woman and her baby behind and went away with other 18 passengers. The passengers were said to be heading for Minna, the state capital, from Kotangora when the incident happened. Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has convicted and sentenced a former Deputy Chief Registrar of the court, Mutiat Adio, to five years imprisonment for issuance of dishonoured cheque. A statement by EFCC on Sunday said the Ibadan zonal office of the commission secured the conviction of the court’s top official on Friday. The statement stated that Adio was convicted after pleading guilty to fresh charges of obtaining money by false pretence and issuance of dishonored cheque. Fifteen Turkish sailors kidnapped by pirates last month in the Gulf of Guinea have been freed, Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported on Friday, some two weeks after the kidnappers made contact with the shipping company to discuss a ransom. One sailor, an Azerbaijani citizen, was killed in the raid which crew, family members and security sources described as a sophisticated and well-orchestrated attack. Those kidnapped were from Turkey. Suspected Fulani herdsmen, on Thursday, attacked Owode-Ketu and Ijoun villages in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State and killed two persons. Our correspondent gathered that the victims, Isiaka Apesin and Oguntosin Adebayo, were killed on their way to their farms by the herdsmen, who laid an ambush for them. Violence and unrest have been reported in Obalende area of Lagos, as factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers allegedly clashed on Thursday morning. In several videos circulated on social media, passengers and people within the neighbourhood were seen scampering for safety. As at the time of this report, the reason for the clash is unknown. Between 2008 and 2018, about N90.9 billion meant to execute 176 projects was unaccounted for in the coffers of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a review of the auditor-general’s reports has shown. A criminal gang leader in Zamfara State has turned himself in, as part of a controversial amnesty deal. Zamfara state officials say Awwalun Daudawa surrendered with four of his group members, renounced violence and handed over 20 rifles.
