Buhari appoints new permanent secretaries

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved appointment of nine new permanent secretaries in Federal Civil Service. The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita. Here are the new Permanent Secretaries and their states of origin: “Bakari Wadinga (Adamawa), M.K. Dikwa (Borno), Ajani Magdalene N. Olor (Delta), Umakhihe Ernest Afolabi (Edo), Mbaeri Maurice Nnamdi (Imo), Babatunde Lawal (Lagos). “Festus Yusuf Narai Daudu (Nasarawa), Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan (Osun) and Musa Hanafi Moriki (Zamfara). LAUTECH appoints new VC, two others

Governing council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced appointment of a new vice-chancellor and two other principal officers. A statement by the institution’s public relations officer, Mr Lekan Fadeyi, named Mr Michael Ologunde, a renowned professor of food science, as new vice chancellor. United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), on Thursday, confirmed that Kano and Katsina states account for over 30 percent of children affected with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in Nigeria. Nigeria has contributed more money to Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) than 13 other Members states put together in the last 12 years, statistics have shown. Prepare for long strike action, ASUU tells members

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday charged striking members of the union in public universities across the country to prepare for long industrial action. President of the union, Mr Biodun Ogunyemi enjoined ASUU members “to be on the watch and prepare for a long drawn out struggle to salvage the University System”. Lecturers in colleges of education suspend two-month strike

Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has suspended its two months old strike. COEASU national president, Mr Nuhu Ogirima, disclosed this while briefing journalists after its expanded National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday. Ogirima said the suspension follows reassurances from government to meet some of the workers’ key demands and implementation of agreements. Nigeria consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa, has dismantled the “web of powerful passport racketeers” that had operated around its premises for many years.
