Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Oyo State government on Friday announced the indefinite closure of the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, following violent protest by students over their welfare. The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, announced the closure in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital. The statement directed students to vacate the school premises immediately, while law enforcement agents have been enjoined to secure lives and government property in the college. Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has warned Nigerians to be wary of consuming killer rice that has flooded the market. A statement by the forum’s Media and Public Affairs, Abulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said a communiqué issued by the forum in Abuja last week held that the imported rice contains poisonous substance that make people sick and even kill some who consume them. The cause of the rowdiness was the rejection of a bill seeking to establish a South-East Development Commission. British High Commission said from June 1, email enquiries by visa customers applying from outside the UK would attract the fee as from June 1. 44 migrants from Nigeria and Ghana have died in the Sahara Desert after their truck broke down in arid northern Niger. Red Cross said the migrants, most of whom have not been identified, died this week.
