FG pays 20 whistleblowers N375.8 million

The federal government said on Wednesday it had released about N375.8 million for payment of 20 whistleblowers who provided information that led to the recovery over N11.6 billion. Ministry of Finance, which confirmed the release in a statement, said the payments were the first under the Whistleblower Policy. Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has asked the Senate to give approval for one billion, four hundred and ninety two million, four hundred thousand dollars ($1,492,400,000,00) external loan. The request was contained in a letter he addressed to President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, who read it at plenary, saying, the loan was part of the federal government’s external borrowing plan, meant for projects in 10 states. Bauchi State Government on Tuesday said it spent a total of N96 million to purchase horses for the six emirate councils in the state in the last two year. Commissioner for Local government Affairs, Nasurudeen Mohammed, disclosed this at press conference in Bauchi, the state capital. There was tension in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, on Tuesday over the move by a contractor handling a road dualisation project to uproot a tree considered sacred by the community. Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose to 14.2 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2016, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has said. The bureau disclosed that the rate rose from the 13.9 per cent recorded in the preceding quarter of the year under review.
