Gunmen suspected to be bandits have ambushed troops of the Forward Operational Base and that of the Special Operational Command operating in Kebbi State for the purpose of clearance operation. The incident, which occurred around Marke village of the state on Tuesday, left seven soldiers dead. According to sources familiar with the incident, the seven slain soldiers consist of four naval special force personnel and three soldiers. Suspected armed robbers on Sunday in Jigawa State shot dead a Nigerin army major and injured another traveling from Maiduguri to Kaduna State. Residents said the robbers blocked the busy Kano/Maiduguri highway around Dundubus in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, killing the military officer. “The highway blockage by the criminals caused a gridlock at Dundubus town when the residents notified vehicle owners of the danger ahead. “But the robbers later moved down to the town and targetted the military officer’s vehicle, shot him dead and left,” a resident said, asking not to be named for security reasons. At least 19 people have been killed and others missing after gunmen on motorbikes attacked Tsauwa village for the second time in Batsari Council Area of Katsina Monday evening. A source from the village said the attackers struck shortly around 5:45pm. The gunmen dispersed the villagers and chased them on motorbikes, shooting 19 to death.
