1,165 killed, 113 abducted in Northwest Nigeria in 8 months – Report

At least 1,165 people were killed in violent attacks in Northwestern zone of Nigeria between January and August this year, according to a report. No fewer than 113 people were also kidnapped in the zone in the last eight months, a report by a non-governmental organisation, Nigeria Mourns, obtained on Friday, shows. In its latest report, the group which tracks incidents of violent killings across the nation, said the cases in Northwest were recorded in seven states. Gunmen kill two, burn several houses in fresh attack on Southern Kaduna community

Gunmen have reportedly killed two persons and burnt several houses during an attack in Zango Kataf local government area of Kaduna. Nearly $500,000 hidden in furniture seized at airport

Customs officers at a Florida airport found nearly a half-million dollars being smuggled out of the United States hidden inside furniture, officials said. U.S. Custom and Border Protection officers at Miami International Airport seized $491,280 in unreported U.S. currency last Thursday, the agency said in a news release. The money had been concealed inside a chair placed in a crate with other furniture. Days after reports of Boko Haram infiltration of FCT, gunmen attack Abuja community, abduct 10 residents

Nigeria Police have confirmed that at least 10 people were abducted in Tungan Maje, a suburb of Abuja early Thursday. Niger govt sacks 80 civil servants for salary fraud

Niger State Government has dismissed 80 civil servants for allegedly placing themselves on salaries above their current status. Head of Service, Mrs Salamatu Abubakar, who disclosed this during a press conference in Minna, said that their dismissal was approved by State Executive Council at its meeting on Thursday. The Head of Service explained that those affected were uncovered by the salary committee earlier set up by the state Governor, Mr Abubakar Sani Bello. Four Nigerian students arrested in Philippines over cyber crime

Philippines’ National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested four Nigerian in Municipal City for alleged involvement in hacking banks online and stealing funds from them. NBI Cybercrime Division chief, Mr Vic Lorenzo said the Nigerians were part of an international syndicate who hack banking systems, taking advantage of the flaws in their systems. Soldiers kill Benue’s notorious crime kingpin, arrest 40 gang members

Nigerian Army has confirmed killing of Mr Terwase Akwaza, alias “Gana,” the ‘most wanted criminal’ in Benue state. Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa state, Mr Moundhey Ali, told newsmen that Gana was killed at a roadblock mounted by the Army along Gbese-Gboko-Makurdi road following exchange of gunfire. Boko Haram insurgents kill 10, abduct farmers in Borno

Boko Haram jihadists killed 10 civilians in attacks on three villages in restive northeast Nigeria, local security officials said Monday. Leader of a government-backed anti-jihadist militia, Mr Babakura Kolo, told AFP that the insurgents carried out the assaults on Sunday. Kolo said they raided the village of Kurmari, 40 kilometres (25 miles) from regional capital Maiduguri, killing four residents as they slept. Two Nigerians arrested in N6.7bn Covid-19 scam against German firm

Security operatives have arrested two suspects for allegedly defrauding German state of North Rhine-Westphalia of €2.3 million Covid-19 fund. Police officer, five others killed in bank robbery in Niger State

A police officer and five others were on Wednesday killed in Kagara town following a bank robbery in Rafi local government area of Niger State.
