Kidnappers demand N270m ransom for 9 ABU students

Armed men who kidnapped nine Nigerian French Language students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Sunday, have demanded a cumulative sum of N270 million as their ransom. One of the students among those in the bus but succeeded in escaping, Dickson Oko, told our correspondent that the kidnappers had reached out to the families of the kidnapped students, demanding N30 million ransom on each. Former Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler, yesterday returned to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further questioning over his stewardship and alleged diversion of N5 billion. Kaduna State Government has said that five people were kidnapped during Sunday’s attack on commuters along Abuja-Kaduna highway. Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna. Aruwan said the figure was disclosed to government officials by relations of the kidnapped victims. He said the government had forwarded the information to relevant security agencies. The officials were kidnapped Monday evening during an attack on the service’s inspection point in Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state, the agency said. “Unknown gunmen today attacked the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) officially gazetted inspection point in Vandeikya Local Government Area, destroying property and kidnapping 5 staff on duty,” a statement posted on BIRS Facebook page said. Gunmen abducted a lecturer and two children of a member of staff of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic Zaria, Kaduna state, on Saturday. Secretary, Information and Protocol Unit of the polytechnic, Abdullahi Shehu, said on Sunday that the victims were abducted from their homes located within the institution. At least one person has been killed after some armed robbers attacked a bullion van on Ado Road in the Ajah area of Lagos State. It was gathered that the robbers attacked the van around 3pm on Thursday and carted away huge sums of money.
