PRESS RELEASE Following calls circulating on social and digital media, an organisation that calls itself “Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria” plans a “revolution” march for Monday 5th August, with the aim of bringing “regime change” in Nigeria without recourse to a nationwide vote. President of Nigeria and his administration respect and uphold the right of every Nigerian to peaceful protest and civil campaign– whether to raise awareness on issues, and even oppose the government. It is the inalienable right of all citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to do so. There is, however, a difference between…
PRESS RELEASE SURELY, NOT AGAIN!!! Deployment of alarmist experessions such as “treason”, “anarchist”, “public incitement,” etc. by Security forces have become so predictable and banal that they have become meaningless. Beyond the word ‘revolution, another much mis-used and misunderstood word, nothing that Sowore has uttered, written, or advocated suggests that he is embarking on, or urging the public to engage in a forceful overthrow of government. Nothing that he said to me in private engagement ever remotely approached an intent to destabilize governance or bypass the normal democratic means of changing a government. I therefore find the reasons given by…
Presidency on Sunday accused Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka of blackmail for condemning the arrest of an activist, Mr Omoyele Sowore. Sowore was arrested on Saturday by armed officials of State Security Service, SSS, for calling for a revolutionary protest. “Beyond the word ‘revolution, another much mis-used and misunderstood word, nothing that Sowore has uttered, written, or advocated suggests that he is embarking on, or urging the public to engage in a forceful overthrow of government,” Mr Soyinka said. He compared the actions of the security agencies that arrested Sowore to what happened during the tenure of the late dictator, Mr…
Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike yesterday warned those intending to participate in the Sowore-planned ‘RevolutionNow’ protest to stay off the state. Wike, in a statement by his spokesman, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, said Rivers State was not part of the protest and whatever illegal agenda it sought to pursue. The governor said: “Rivers State does not subscribe to what the ‘RevolutionNow’ protest represents and Rivers State is not part of the protest.” He directed security agencies in the state to arrest anybody involved in the protest and prosecute him/her. Wike urged parents to ensure that their children were not misled…
The Labour movement, Coalition of northern and pro-Biafra groups have distanced themselves from any planned mass action over the minimum wage impasse or any other contentious issue in the country. In a statement, President of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Mr Quadri A. Olaleye, denied involvement of the Congress in any planned action. He insisted that there were no issues in contention with any public authority that had not been subjected to social dialogue that requires extraordinary means or action to resolve. “The Congress further states that if such issues arise, the Labour Centre will go through its internal…
Organisers of the #RevolutionNow protest has said it will not be deterred by arrest of its leader and presidential candidate of African Action Congress, Mr Omoyele Sowore. One of the organisers, who is General Secretary, United Action for Democracy and member of Socialist Workers and Youth League, Mr Kunle Ajayi, vowed to go on with the mass action. “#RevolutionNow: They think they can stop an idea whose time has come. You have plenty to arrest. We will show you all that our generation cannot continue with your state madness. We will hand over a better world to our children. The…
Mr Omoyele Sowore, who is the leader of #RevolutionNow movement, had declared August 5 as the commencement of a revolutionary protest tagged, “Days of Rage,” across the country to demand a better Nigeria. He said the protest would be sustained until the country was put on the right path, saying government’s action in the 2019 general elections propelled the protest. He complained there was no level playing field in the elections and said for the country to have free and fair elections in the future, there must be a showdown and people must define who should be their electoral officers.…

The Force wishes to state unequivocally that the call amounts to treasonable felony and acts of terrorism and will therefore not stand idly-by and watch any individual or group in the society cause anarchy in…
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that Nigerians should desist from blaming leaders over rising insecurity challenges in the country.
