Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Mr Ike Ekweremadu, was on Saturday physically attacked by a mob while attending a cultural event in Germany. Ekweremadu who confirmed the attack in a statement, said the attackers were members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), a South East secessionist group. Shi’ite leader, Mr Ibrahim EZakyzaky, has said that he had greater freedom while in custody in Nigeria than in Medenta Hospital, New Delhi, India, where he went for treatment last Monday. Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finally agreed to shut down the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for major repairs. The closure of the runway will take effect from August 24, according to a statement by the spokesperson of FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu. A British judge has ordered the federal government to pay $9bn (about N2.8 trillion) in assets to a small private company. The firm, P&ID, had reached a deal with the government in 2010 to build a natural gas plant - but the deal fell through two years later. Federal Government has constituted 12 committees to review the present revenue sharing formula of the federation as well as ways to expand the revenue base of the nation. Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mr Elias Mbas made the disclosure, yesterday, in Abuja at the inauguration of chairmen and members of the Committees. Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Aaron Motsoaledi, on Thursday announced that South Africa will implement visa waiver for citizens of Ghana, Cuba, and Sao Tome and Principe, to promote tourism.
