Lagos police command has paraded 49 suspects arrested at the ‘Yoruba nation’ rally, held in the Ojota area of the state. Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos commissioner of police, paraded the suspects at the command headquarters on Sunday. On Saturday, ‘Yoruba nation’ agitators stormed the Gani Fawehinmi park in Ojota to demand an independent south-west region. Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that five persons lost their lives, Sunday morning, when a fully loaded gas tanker in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, suffered a brake failure. A military plane has crashed in the southern Philippines, killing 50 people and injuring 49 military personnel. The Lockheed C-130 transport aircraft was carrying 96 people, mostly troops, when it overshot the runway on Jolo airport in Sulu province. The soldiers were among reinforcements sent to combat Islamist militants such as the Abu Sayyaf group. The dead are mainly military personnel, but three civilians on the ground were also killed, the defence ministry said.
