The country’s electricity grid has lost 1,062 megawatts (mw) to various constraints of gas supply shortage and turbine faults, checks on the power sector reveals. The grid which had peak power generation of 4,160mw on January 1, 2017 dropped to 3,432mw last week, and further declined to 3,098mw on Sunday, causing a total loss of 1,062mw. Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Sunday, condemned the economic policies of President Muhammadu Buhari, including the ban on foreign goods and devaluation of the currency, saying the policies lacked human face. Aggregated power poll results released by NOIPolls for the second half of 2016 (July to December 2016), revealed a decline in power supply to Nigerian households in the fourth quarter (Q4) as only an average of 37 per cent reported improvement in power supply.
