The Senate has commenced the process of amending the Nigeria Customs Service Act which aims at preventing appointment of Comptroller General from outside the Service. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, Senator Hope Uzodinma (PDP, Imo) disclosed this during a meeting with five former Comptroller-Generals of Customs on the amendment of NCS Act. Kaduna Disco sacks 530 workers

National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, on Thursday said the Kaduna Electric, has terminated the appointments of 530 of its members. Kaduna State Chairman of NUEE, Ephraim James, said that the company issued sack letters to the workers on February 1. “The termination letters are being dispatched in batches, but so far we can confirm that 530 affected personnel had so far received their letters,“ he said. Nigerian troops have arrested some 3,332 Boko Haram suspects within three weeks, a senior commander said Thursday. Lucky Irabor, a major general and commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, responsible for fighting the insurgents in northeast Nigeria, said the military had also made an unprecedented capture of arms within the period. Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has appealed to Nigerians not to pressure President Muhammadu Buhari into appointing him the substantive Chief Justice. Onnoghen made the appeal in a statement by his media aide, Awassam Bassey. Man hangs self in Kano

A middle-age man identified as Nura was found hung on a tree plant in Tsamiya village of Gezawa local government area of Kano state. The man was suspected to have hung himself for reasons best knwon to him, an eye witness, said. "The man kept his shirt, shoe and a local counter (Charbi) under the tree and then wrote his name before he committed suicide," he said. Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia, has confirmed the discovery of a new drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS.
