Islamist militants killed at least 10 people and took two women captive in an attack on a convoy in northern Nigeria that targeted Christians and those associated with international aid groups, witnesses said on Friday. Unknown gunmen killed a soldier on guard duty at the courtyard of former President Goodluck Jonathan situated close to the bank of the river at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Multiple sources said about three of the gunmen were killed by the soldiers, who foiled their attempt to break into the house. Gunmen kill 8, sack senator’s community

Barely one week after armed bandits abducted two expatriates and six others working for a former Senator, Mr David Umaru, armed men suspected to be bandits have attacked Umaru’s community, Kaure, Kwaki Ward in Shiroro Local Government Area. A new report on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria has found that about 1,000 adherents of the Christian faith have been killed by Islamic militants in 2019 alone. Nigeria’s former attorney general was detained by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) upon his return home on Thursday, the commission said in a statement, as part of an investigation into one of the oil industry’s biggest suspected corruption scandals.
