National Christian Elders Forum has kicked against plan by the Federal Government to set up ranches in 10 states, saying it is a ploy to grab lands for Fulani herdsmen across the country. The association added that the plot was part of what it called stealth jihad to take over lands belonging to other Nigerians and give them to herdsmen who would subsequently appoint Emirs and claim ownership of the land. Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Friday, NCEF Chairman, Mr Solomon Asemota, admonished Nigerians to interpret the Federal Government’s decision against the history of land and land reforms…
Ebonyi State Government on Thursday said the claim by the federal government that it had agreed to provide land for cattle ranching was false. Federal government had on Tuesday listed Ebonyi among the ten states that had agreed to provide land for ranching. It said the aim of the ranching plan is to reduce farmers/herders clashes which have claimed thousands of lives in the country over the years. Aside the loss of lives, the federal government also said that Nigeria loses about $14 billion (₦5.04 trillion) annually to the conflicts. The ten states listed by the federal for the ranching,…
Federal Government’s plan to establish ranches in parts of the country as a solution to unending farmers-herders clashes may not have gone down well with the generality of Benue people who collectively felt it was against their struggle to establish peaceful coexistence in the state through the state’s grazing law. From tribal leaders to youth groups and leaders of thought, they argued that the proposal posed a threat to their collective wellbeing and the grazing law which they collectively ensured came into force to protect the interest of farmers and herders alike. The backlash that trailed the proposal in the…

Nigeria’s public debt rose by 4.5 percent to N22.7 trillion in first quarter of 2018 (Q1’18) due to increased domestic borrowing by state governments and increased foreign borrowing by the federal government.
