President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja offered unreserved apology on behalf of federal government to the family of Mr Moshood Abiola, over the annulment of June 12 1993 poll, presumably won by late Abiola. The president apologised at the Special National Honours Investiture and award presentation to heroes of June 12, 1993 annulled by the defunct Ibrahim Babangida regime. He said the decision to hold the event was not to open old wounds but to bury negative sides of June 12 and its ill-feelings, hates, frustration and agony. He, therefore, called on all Nigerians across national divides to accept…
In accepting President Muhammadu Buhari’s apology on behalf of the family, Abiola’s daughter, Hafsat also apologised to the President for the wrongs her late father might have done him. She said nobody could have imagined, considering the kind of relationship between them, that Buhari would be the one to honour her late father. “Who would have ever believed, given the relationship that you had with Mr MKO Abiola, that you would be the instrument God would use to honour this man and to bring recognition and healing to the country? “You apologised to my family and it touched my heart.…
Nobel laureate, Mr Wole Soyinka, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued commendation of late military dictator, Mr Sani Abacha. He said Mr Buhari cannot praise Abacha in one breath, then honour the presumed winner of 1993 presidential polls, Mr Moshood Abiola in another. A few weeks ago, Buhari said no matter what anyone thought of Abacha, he (Abacha) ran one of the most effective governments in Nigeria’s history. He also took time to flay another ex-president, Mr Olusegun Obasanjo for reportedly mismanaging billions of funds deployed into the power sector while he held sway. Abacha was Nigeria’s 10th…

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that Nigeria’s strongest selling point remained an “intellectually aggressive and economically ambitious’’ populace that always seeks self-improvement and self-actualization in any part of the world. Speaking in Rabat, Morocco during an audience with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr Saadeddine Othmani, at Royal Guest Palace, Mr Buhari said Nigeria’s “visionary and resilient population’’ works hard to always position the country for more growth, fueled by a largely youthful group that continually wants to contribute to development. In a statement by Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, the President…
