FG abolishes Degree/HND dichotomy in Civil Defence, Immigration, Prisons, Fire Services

Federal Government has abolished the dichotomy between holders of Barchelor’s Degree and those with Higher National Diploma, HND, in all the Services under Ministry of Interior. Agencies affected are Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Prisons Service and Federal Fire Service. Before now, personnel with HND certificates are employed into the Inspectorate cadre while their colleagues with Barchelor’s Degree certificate are in the Superintendent cadre. However, with this new policy, HND holders will now be moved from the Inspectorate cadre to Superintendent cadre without obtaining any degree certificates as the case was before now. Ajimobi names roads, hospitals after self, Alaafin, Olubadan, others

Oyo State Government on Tuesday announced that some roads and institutions have been approved for renaming by Executive Council of the State. No more automatic US visa renewal for Nigerians - Embassy

United States mission to Nigeria has announced the indefinite suspension of interview waivers for visa renewals, otherwise known as the “Dropbox” process. The embassy said visa applications will “no longer be accepted by DHL in Nigeria.” It said all applicants in Nigeria seeking a non-immigrant visa to United States must apply online, and will be required to appear in-person at U.S. Embassy in Abuja or U.S. Consulate General in Lagos to submit their application for review. JAMB pays N5b into Federation Account

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has remitted N5 billion to the Federation Account in 2019. This is against the N8 billion it returned to the government purse last year. JAMB’s Head of Information, Mr Fabian Benjamin, confirmed this in an interview yesterday in Abuja, the nation’s capital. FCTA demolishes Abuja strip club

FCT Administration has demolished Caramelo Lounge, a strip club based in Utako District, Abuja. It also revoked the Certificate of Occupancy issued on the plot. The demolition was carried out yesterday morning by Department of Development Control (DDC), an agency under FCTA, accompanied by a joint team of security personnel. Ebonyin, Katsina, Ekiti, 14 others states in serious economic distress - Report

Economic Confidential at the weekend released its Annual States Viability Index (ASVI) for 2018, showing that 17 states of the 36 states are insolvent as their Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) in 2018 were far below 10 per cent of their receipts from the Federation Account Allocations (FAA) in the same year. The index computed by the report revealed that without the monthly disbursement from Federal Accounts Allocation Commission, many of the states remained unviable and cannot survive without the federally distributed handouts largely from the oil sector. Tension in Kano as Sanusi makes triumphant return from overseas trip

A tense atmosphere on Sunday enveloped the northern Nigerian city of Kano, as supporters of the Emir, Mr Lamido Sanusi trooped to the airport to welcome their beleaguered traditional ruler. JAMB releases results of 1.7m candidates, blacklists 116 centres

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has released results of 1,792,719 candidates out of the 1,886,508 who sat for 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations in April. Announcing the results in Abuja on Saturday, JAMB Registrar, Mr Ishaq Oloyede, said 34,120 results were withheld, including results of 15,145 candidates which were being further clarified as ‘identical twins and siblings.’ He explained further that 59,667 candidates were absent during the exams. Insecurity: Pastors, Imams, others to be recruited as special police constables

As part of measures to check rising insecurity in the face of insufficient manpower in Nigeria’s police force, the Force has concluded plans to engage thousands of Special Constables to work with conventional policemen in communities. Gov raises alarm over residents of his state fleeing to neighbouring country
