The Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, has claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion that killed four people and injured several others in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack was the seventh to be claimed by the group in the state in the last eight months. The explosion rocked a community in the area last Thursday. Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested a commander of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abdulmumin Otaru aka Abu Mikdad, in connection with the explosion around the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Kogi State. Four persons were killed in the incident that occurred last Thursday when President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state to commission some projects executed by Governor Yahaya Bello. Four police officers have been reportedly killed during an attack on the convoy of Ikedi Ohakim, a former governor of Imo state. The incident was said to have happened on Monday evening at Oriagu in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo state. The former Imo governor escaped death by the whiskers as the gunmen bombed the backup vehicle in his convoy. Bandits have killed no fewer than 20 people and many others wounded in villages surrounding the Duguri District of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Gunmen, yesterday, attacked the Divisional Police Station in Ihiala community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, setting it on fire. Bandits have killed no fewer than four farmers and abducted over 100 others including women and children from 14 communities in Mashegu and Rafi local government areas of Niger State in the last three weeks. Barely 24 hours after the kidnap of 45 residents in Aku Community, bandits have again abducted 16 people in another attack on Angwan Pa community in the same Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
