Hundreds of villagers yesterday blocked Kaduna-Abuja highway, protesting the killing of Commander of Civilian JTF, Haruna Halilu, in their community by suspected kidnappers. The villagers, who are from Sabuwar Gayan, a village along the highway in Chikun Local Government of Area of Kaduna State, blocked the road around 2.05pm, lamenting the failure of government to tackle the kidnappers. Bearing Dane guns, sticks, machetes and other weapons, the villagers who were mostly women, children and youths said their village had been taken over by the kidnappers.The situation caused heavy gridlock as both lanes of the road were blocked for two hours.…
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has issued a weather alert to all airline operators indicating hazards associated with Harmattan dust haze in flight operations at this period of the year. A statement by NCAA General Manager, Public Relations, Mr Sam Adurogboye, on Sunday said the alert was important as Harmattan was a threat to aircraft particularly in areas of challenging terrains due to low visibility. Ndume: Senate to appeal court judgement

Senate has concluded plans to appeal a Federal High Court judgement that declared suspension of a senator, Mr Ali Ndume, illegal. The court had also ordered that Mr. Ndume be paid all his outstanding salaries and allowances. The position of the Senate was conveyed in a statement by its counsel, Mr Mike Ozekhome, on Sunday. The Senate had on March 30 suspended Ndume, former Majority Leader, for 90 legislative days (six months). Ndume was suspended for raising a matter that the Senate investigate public allegations of impropriety against the Senate President, Mr Bukola Saraki, and another senator, Mr Dino Melaye.…

A strong 7.3-magnitude earthquake has rattled the northern border region between Iran and Iraq, killing more than one hundred people.At least 129 people have died in western Iran's Kermanshah province, officials told state media.
