FG fines 23 radio, TV stations for various infractions

Twenty three radio and television stations across Nigeria have been fined for various breaches of broadcasting rules set by National Broadcasting Commission, NBC. NBC spokesperson, Mrs Maimuna Jimada, said in a statement that the stations were punished for hateful speech, vulgar lyrics and unverifiable claims. The breaches contravened the provisions of Nigeria Broadcasting Code in the third quarter of 2017, according to the NBC. NJC replaces Salami on committee to monitor corruption cases

National Judicial Council (NJC) under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mr Walter Onnoghen, has picked a retired Justice of Supreme Court, Mr Suleiman Galadima, as the new chairman of Corruption and Financial Crime Cases Trial Monitoring Committee. Court orders FG to pay N88bn to civil war victims

A court on Monday ordered the federal government to pay N88 billion (£218.12 million) in damages to victims of the 1967 civil war for failure to fully de-mine and clear the land of other weaponry after the end of hostilities.
