Expert raises alarm over Nigeria's low soil fertility

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan President, Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN), Mr Victor Chude, has raised an alarm on Nigeria's soils, saying they are very low in fertility compared to what is obtainable in other parts of the world. Buhari sacks Boroh, names replacement for Amnesty Programme

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday sacked Mr Paul Boroh as Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Programme and replaced him with Mr Charles Dokubo. A statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, said Dokubo is currently Director of Research and Studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA). EU to FG: Bring perpetrators of herder-farmer violence to justice

European Union has charged the Federal Government to bring perpetrators of the recurrent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country to justice. According to EU in a statement on Tuesday by its Heads of Mission in Nigeria, this is the necessary first step towards creating peace in the country. Reps lift suspension on Abdulmumin Jibrin

House of Representatives has lifted a suspension it placed on Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House from Kano. This followed a letter signed by Jibrin, apologising to the House. Lawyers, activists march against ‘obnoxious’ Lagos taxes

Dozens of lawyers and civil society activists marched in Lagos, Tuesday, in protest of some new tax regimes introduced by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode government. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has said it may burn unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the 2019 election. False news 70 percent more likely to spread on Twitter - Study

False news stories spread much more quickly and widely on Twitter than truthful ones, an imbalance driven more by people than automated "bot" accounts, researchers said on Thursday. A study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab examining about 126,000 stories shared by some 3 million people on Twitter from 2006 to 2017 found that false news was about 70 percent more likely to be retweeted by people than true news. Senate confirms N13.5m monthly running cost to each member, says payment not unusual

Senate has formally confirmed that each of its members receives N13.5 million monthly as running cost. A senator, Mr Shehu Sani, reported the amount, which was hitherto kept from the public. The money is illegal as it is not approved by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
