Banditry: FG shuts down telecom services in Zamfara

Exactly six months after declaring Zamfara State a ‘no fly zone’, the Federal Government through the Nigerian Communications Commission has asked telecommunications firms to shut down some communication sites in Zamfara State. A leaked memo signed by Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, Umar Danbatta, which was addressed to one of the telecoms operators, stated that the shutdown of the telecoms sites had become necessary due to the insecurity in the state. At least 27.4 million Nigerians earn below N100,000 per annum or N8,333 per month, a report by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has said. The report, presented in Lagos on Thursday, said the figure represented 48.9 per cent of persons living in poverty in the country. 6,000 Boko Haram fighters have surrendered - Army

External reserves get $500m boost in one week

Nigeria’s external reserves rose by $500m in one week to the highest point in more than two months, according to the latest data from Central Bank of Nigeria. The reserves, which have been wobbling in recent weeks, jumped from $33.43bn on August 23 to $33.93bn on Monday, the highest since June 11. CBN direct banks to publish details of customers who used fake documents to obtain forex

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed all banks to publish names of customers who violate the rules on Forex acquisition.
