There is an outpouring of anger and condemnation by Nigerians over comments by an outspoken Catholic priest, Ejike Mbaka, against Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Mbaka, during his weekly ministration service on Wednesday, said Obi would not be president of Nigeria in 2023 because he is a “stingy man who does not give out money to people”. He also said until Obi returned to his Adoration Ministry to apologise for refusing to donate to the ministry when he was asked to do so, his ambition to become president of Nigeria would be fruitless. But many Nigerians, across different…
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday said its centres across Southeastern states have recently witnessed “sudden turnout of prospective registrants.” INEC said it has, therefore, deployed additional 209 voter enrolment machines to the five Southeastern states as well as Lagos and Kano to ease the congestion at the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centres. The commission disclosed this in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee in Abuja on Friday. Okoye said that the commission received reports from states indicating an unprecedented surge in the number of citizens that wished to register…
Presidential candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Thursday evening paid an unscheduled visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the latter’s Aguda House residence, Abuja. The APC flag bearer first visited President Muhammadu Buhari before proceeding to Aguda House. Tinubu defeated Osinbajo and 12 others at the just concluded presidential primary of the APC. Tinubu polled 1,271 votes to emerge victorious while Osinbajo polled 235 votes to come third behind Tinubu and ex-transport minister Rotimi Amaechi who polled 231 votes. The visit occured a few hours after Osinbajo congratulated Mr Tinubu for the victory and…
After months of intense horse-trading among various power blocs within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, was Wednesday declared winner of the presidential primary of the party. At the presidential primary concluded in Abuja Wednesday, Tinubu, who polled 1,271 votes, defeated 13 others in the race. His closest opponent was the former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 316 votes. Tinubu, while declaring his intention to run for the presidency of Nigeria in January, said it has always been his lifetime ambition. He disclosed this at the State House shortly after visiting President…
A poll conducted by the Democratic Research Initiative, a Research and Strategy Institution, has projected a landslide victory for Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in the ongoing presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party fixed its primary election for June 6 to 8 at Eagle Square, Abuja. The results of the poll conducted by sampling voting decisions of eligible delegates across the country placed the vice-president ahead of the 22 other aspirants jostling for the presidential ticket of the ruling party. Apart from Osinbajo, the other aspirants cleared by the John Odigie-Oyegun-led screening panel are a former Governor of…
PRESS RELEASE “In the past few hours we have been bombarded with calls and messages from our supporters and concerned Nigerians on a list of five Presidential aspirants submitted to President Buhari to choose from. “As long as we are concerned no list has been submitted to Mr. President, the move by the Governors is considered a joke taken to the extreme with the aim of playing with the intellect of Nigerians particularly us from the South-East. “Mr President’s directive is very simple, that all Presidential aspirants including those from the North should meet and harmonise inorder to produce a…
A closed-door meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) and governors who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) kicked off in Abuja last night (Monday). The meeting held at the APC National Secretariat at Wuse 2 area of the City Centre. Our correspondent gathered from sources at the party’s headquarters that the meeting is likely to take a final decision on who should be fielded as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 poll. The party’s presidential primary is slated for Tuesday. The APC had screened 23 aspirants to contest its ticket at the primary but two contestants…
The Presidency has dismissed the claim of Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that he brought President Muhammadu Buhari into power. While addressing APC delegates in Ogun State last week, Tinubu had boasted that without him, Buhari would have lost in 2015. “You have not heard this from me before. This is the first place I am saying this. If not me that led the war front, Buhari wouldn’t have emerged. He contested first, second and third times, but lost. He even said on television that he won’t contest again.” “But I went to his home…
PRESS RELEASE My attention has just been drawn to the expensive joke purportedly enacted by the National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu. The speculation is rife that the Chairman took a flight of fancy and decided to make a pronouncement beyond his competence. He has, allegedly, made public his preferred choice as the candidate of the APC for the Office of the President in the next general elections. This alleged pronouncement runs contrary to the position of majority of Northern Governors in APC and their counterparts in the South. Our agreement is unanimous on this issue. The office of the…
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the presidential hopefuls of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “come up with a formidable” consensus candidate before the party holds its primary election. The president said this during a meeting with the aspirants on Saturday at the presidential villa, Abuja. The ruling party has fixed June 6-8 for its special convention to elect its presidential flagbearer. In a statement signed by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, Buhari was quoted as saying: “Looking at this assemblage of personalities and considering your rich pedigree of accomplishments in life, I have come to the conclusion that our party,…
