Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has been ousted from power after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership. The vote was held past midnight after opposition parties brought a motion against him, which was upheld by the Supreme Court. Khan had said he would not recognise an opposition government, claiming - without evidence - that there was a US-led conspiracy to remove him. The assembly will now appoint a new prime minister. Pakistan's parliament will meet to vote for the country's new leader on Monday. That person will be able to hold power until October 2023, when the next election…

During the build-up to the 2015 presidential election, the Nobel laureate, on several occasions, criticised the administration of the former President Goodluck Jonathan. In 2015 Soyinka was widely reported to have said that he would not advise anyone to vote for Jonathan, while questioning the re-election bid of the former president. Speaking at the media briefing, the Nobel laureate said despite criticising Jonathan, he never supported the candidacy of Buhari in 2015.…

Last week, a meeting of the PDP zoning committee headed by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State ended without a definite outcome. However, on Tuesday, the 37-member committee met for over three hours, after which they said recommendations had been sent to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. But sources told…

Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban scored a fourth consecutive landslide win in Sunday's election, as voters endorsed his ambition of a conservative, "illiberal" state and shrugged off concerns over Budapest's close ties with Moscow. Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine had appeared to upend Orban's campaign in recent weeks, forcing him into awkward manouvering to explain decade-old cosy business relations with President Vladimir Putin. But he mounted a successful campaign to persuade his Fidesz party's core electorate that the six-party opposition alliance of Peter Marki-Zay promising to mend ties with the European Union could lead the country into war,…
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who has fostered close ties with Russia and refused to impose sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine, is expected to extend his almost 10-year grip on power in the Balkan country when it holds national elections on Sunday. Polls predict that Vucic, a populist who has boasted about his personal ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, will win another five-year term as president. His right-wing Serbian Progressive Party also is expected to continue to dominate the country’s parliament. But polls indicated a close local government race in the capital, Belgrade. A loss for Vucic’s…
