Woman, cars, church, houses lost to tanker inferno

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Tragedy struck along Eleyele-Ologuneru road, Ibadan, yesterday as a petrol tanker fire claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified woman and destroyed property worth millions of naira. The fire which started around 11am according to eye witness was triggered when the truck loaded with 33,000 litres of diesel had difficulty ascending the hilly Ologuneru road from Eleyele bridge axis of the road. German don calls for training and retraining of science journalists

Senate gives Osinbajo two weeks ultimatum to submit budgets of revenue generating agencies

The Senate has issued a two-week ultimatum to acting President Yemi Osinbajo to ensure submission of the budgets of 31 public establishments, including Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Nigerian Ports Authority, to the National Assembly in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the Fiscal Responsibility Act. Politicians wooing soldiers 'for political reasons' - Army chief

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has warned officers and soldiers of the army to steer clear of politics or have themselves to blame. Nigeria police to deploy officers to communities of origin

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, said on Tuesday that policemen would soon be deployed to their communities of origin to enhance community policing. The IGP told a meeting in Lokoja that the bulk of the 150,000 policemen to be recruited over the next five years would serve in their respective communities. Oshiomhole’s wife‎, 334 others get Nigerian citizenship

A total of 335 foreign nationals were on Tuesday in Abuja granted citizenship by the Federal Government after statutory clearance and due diligence by the relevant security agencies, the government announced. ‎ Minister of Interior, Lt.Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau,‎ who presented certificates of citizenship to the recipients, charged them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria. Results of the first set of candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) last Saturday have been released by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Inflation rate drops for third consecutive month

National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday said the Consumer Price Index which measures inflation dropped from 17.26 per cent in March to 17.24 per cent in the month of April. NBS in the report stated that the 0.02 per cent points in inflation rate makes it the third consecutive month of decline in the CPI. This, the report added, is an indication that the high food and non-food prices in the economy, as well as the unfavourable base effects of the 2016 prices, have started easing. Nigeria ranked 13th least stable country in the world

For the second year in a row, Nigeria is ranked the 13th least stable country in the world on the Fragile States Index, FSI, released by Washington DC-based think-tank, Fund for Peace, FFP. The Index measures levels of stability in 178 countries and ranks them according to their vulnerability to threats from social, political, economic and demographic pressures.
