Residents of Ibadan, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest against irregular power supply by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The residents accused the electricity distribution company of exploitation. The protest, which started at Eleta Community High School, saw no fewer than 40 communities participating in it.

Some of the protesters from Ibadan South East Local Council condemned mass disconnection from the source of electricity supply and equally sensitised the residents against what they called injustice.

The protest attracted representatives of Coalition of Affordable and Regular Electricity (CARE), Abiodun Bamigboye and Olaniyi Abdulwasiu, among others.

Abdulwasiu alleged that the IBEDC had disregarded the pending suit at Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, filed by over 40 different communities in Ibadan South-East.

He alleged that IBEDC refused to maintain the status quo and embarked on mass disconnection of thousands of electricity consumers in the council area. He then demanded cancellation of all questionable accumulated debts based on estimated billing before the installation of prepaid meters, cancellation of electricity consumers under different categories of bands. He urged the power company to comply with the NERC judgment.
