A non-governmental oganisation, Rescue Citizen’s Ambassadors (RCA), has identified love lost as the reason behind the sack of ethnic groups from one region or the other across the country.
South West Zonal Coordinator of the organisation, Paul Omokehinde, while addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, said if all issues affecting the country must be addressed, traditional rulers from various ethnic groups must be involved and made to take responsibilities for ongoings in their various domains.
While apparently speaking on the recent call by some Arewa youth for Yorubas to leave the region, he said, “by bringing the traditional rulers around us on board, the traditional rulers have stakes and say and in such a situation, having known, the traditional rulers in that jurisdiction have roles to play in resolving the matter.
“We believe the traditional rulers in the domains have a lot to do in resolving the issue because they are stakeholders in their domain and that is why we are working towards bring traditional rulers on board
“We are here to preach peace. We have lost living peacefully with one another and that is why we have the situation currently on ground. So, first and foremost what we are set to do is to restore the synergy and make people understand that they might be from the South, West, East or North, but at the end of the day, it is still one Nigeria.
“We have started work on the ground. We are not politically oriented or interested in politics, but a group of people with the objective of influencing the people to pursue the recovery of Nigeria’s lost values.
“We grew up knowing each other as one, living peacefully and loving each other. By the time there is loving between us, there wont be fight, if there is peace between us, there won’t be the issue of quit notice to any group.
“We should understand the current situation of the country and the only way we can save the situation is to preach love”.
Omokehinde stressed that the focus of the organisation is to influence the people to pursue the recovery of Nigeria’s lost values through national re-orientation and re-awakening at all levels.
He said, “RCA is a group with the objectives of influencing the people to pursue the recovery of Nigeria’s lost values, engineer national re-orientation and reawakening at all levels in order to re-enliven basic fundamental beliefs that would guide and motivate attitudinal change.
“The group is also geared towards encouraging positive actions that are bound to redirect the country to the path of veritable growth and development.
“For this reason, we can’t just fold our arms and wish things away. Our belief in RCA is that once our cultural values are restored, it would become a lot easier to prepare the new crops of leaders not just to be gainfully employed, but to be adequately equipped to pilot the affairs of the country in a positive trend.
“RCA exists therefore, to model and advance people-led approaches towards sustainable development, social equity, domestic governance and economic viability.”
“By utilization innovative research, policy and advocacy, an equitable and fair society in which families and homes enjoy full social, economic and religious rights will be birthed.”
On how to actualize the group's objective, Omokehinde said, “We want to bring everybody on board, irrespective of our gender, belief, tribe, race and one of the things we have noted around us is that we have left most of these responsibilities to the so called elders, politicians, leaders but the time has come when both the upper and lower levels to take the bull by the horn.
“One of the things we intend doing is engaging in empowerment irrespective of our tribes, ethnic, religion. It is time we call and involve all the traditional rulers to be involved, not as the rulers of their domain alone but as a ruler of Nigeria as a whole. They must be concern within and beyond the scope of their territories.
“We must all see and know that Nigeria belongs to everyone of us and venturing into the race of empowering people across the tribes, ethnicity and so would be easy. Everyone must be ready to be involved in virtually everything happening across the country.
“One of our game plans is to bring everybody on board, share our vision and our target is to let everyone see Nigeria as their personal effect, it won’t be a thing of dilly-dallying in terms of establishing relationship among ourselves, I mean all the tribes.
“We have to see ourselves as one and until we do that, there won’t be the need to plot against people of other tribes. One of the game plans is to bring every tribe on ground with us and share our vision with us.”
