Bauchi eases lockdown, lifts ban on religious activities

Bauchi State Government has reviewed its partial lockdown by lifting ban on religious gathering especially Friday prayers and church services.

According to the new terms, Eid-el Fitri prayers would be observed with face masks and social distancing would strictly be adhered to.

The decision was made known by Governor Bala Mohammed during a Stakeholders Meeting held on Wednesday in Bauchi.

He said that being satisfied with the level case management Covid-19 patients in the state, Imams and Clergies are to ensure total compliance to regulations set up for the full reopening of worship centres specifically social distancing, compulsory use of face masks, hand washing and reducing time spent in congregations.

The governor said that markets would from Thursday open fully on all days of the week as against three days, urging people to however continue to observe social distancing in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

He charged stakeholders to assist government in ensuring that the protective protocol put in place were adhered to strictly in order to be free from Covid-19.

According to him, “With the present situation, religious gatherings can resume effective on Thursday, 21st May 2020.”

Mohammed also disclosed that the total lockdown imposed on Katagum, Zaki and Giade local governments have also been relaxed following the significant reduction in the prevalence of Covid-19 in the areas.
