President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Mr Biodun Ogunyemi, says members of National Assembly risk being stoned if they spend N5.5bn on cars as proposed.

Addressing newsmen on Monday shortly after a National Executive Council meeting of ASUU at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogunyemi described the proposal as uncharitable, inhuman and provocative.

Ogunyemi blamed ongoing xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa on leadership failure, saying “Nigeria loses her respect to South Africa the moment we can no longer cater for our citizens. Even if we bring back people from South Africa and we don’t have plans for them, they’ll still find a way of going back.”

He called for a declaration of state of emergency on the education sector, saying “until Nigeria’s education is fixed, our problems will be multiplying.”
