MUSWEN holds confab on Islam in Yorubaland

Renowned scholars and stakeholders from the six states in South West will converge on Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Saturday, October 6, to discuss the history of Islam in Yorubaland.

The International conference being facilitated by Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) is one of the activities lined up to mark the 10th year anniversary of the group.

A statement by Chairman, Conference Planning Committee, Mr Muhib Opeloye and 10th Anniversary Committee, Mr Yisa Abdulkareem, said the maiden conference will hold at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The conference which has as its theme “Islam in Yorubaland: Progress and Challenges”, will feature intellectual and scholarly presentations and will be presided over by Chairman of MUSWEN Board of Trustees, Mr Bola Ajibola.

Leading keynote and paper presenter include Chief Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Mr Abdurrahman Ahmad and President of Lagos State Muslim Community, Mr Tajudeen Gbadamosi.

League of Imams and Alfas in South West as well as prominent Muslim groups and scholars are equally expected at the one-day conference.

Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, Mr Daud Noibi will host scholars and Muslims from across the Southwest and beyond at the programme which will hold under the leadership of MUSWEN President and Conference Convener, Mr Sakariyau Babalola.

It would be recalled that Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN) was established in August, 2008 with the aim of uniting Muslims in the six states that make up the region and foster the development of the Ummah in the country.

MUSWEN prides itself as a unifying factor for Muslims in the region and beyond and thus, the 10th year of existence is described as decade of unity, peace and progress.
