President Bola Tinubu has halted plans to automatically deduct 40 percent from the internally generated revenue (IGR) of federal universities. According to Premium Times, Tahir Mamman, the minister for education, spoke at the 75th Founder’s Day ceremony of the University of Ibadan (UI). Twenty-two Justices of the Court of Appeal have been nominated by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), for elevation to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Consequently, FJSC has sent the list of the 22 nominees to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for ratification and onward recommendation to President Bola Tinubu. The names of the nominees were revealed in an FJSC document released on Thursday. Nigeria is withdrawing civil claims totaling $1.1 billion against energy giant Eni SpA, ending a long battle in Italian courts over allegations of corruption in an oil-field deal. The West African country’s justice ministry will waive the claims before Italy’s highest court “unconditionally” and “with immediate effect” no later than Nov. 17, according to a letter seen by Bloomberg. Nigeria’s headline inflation rate for October 2023 has increased to 27.33 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed. The figure is 0.9 short of the 28.2 percent recorded 18 years ago, in August 2005. A former minister of finance, Onaolapo Soleye, is dead. Soleye died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Abeokuta, the capital of his home Ogun state. He was aged 90. He was the finance minister under the military regime of Muhammadu Buhari from 1984 to 1985. He had earlier served as commissioner for works in Ogun State. Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, nationwide strike recorded mixed compliance across the states, yesterday. While some states were shut down with banks, public schools, courts and others shut down, some states recorded partial compliance and a few did not comply. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says the old naira notes will remain legal tender beyond December 31, 2023 — and no longer have a deadline. CBN said this in a statement signed by Isa AbdulMumin, director, corporate communications, on Tuesday.
