FG blasts UK over IPOB/MASSOB asylum offer

Federal Government says the reported decision of the United Kingdom to grant asylum to “persecuted” members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is disrespectful of Nigeria as a country. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, also said that the decision amounted to sabotaging the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security. Fielding questions from Newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, Mohammed said the decision is unacceptable to Nigeria. “Let me say straight away that this issue is within the purview of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and I am sure he will handle it appropriately. “But as the…

The World Health Organization’s Emergency Committee recommended on Monday that proof of vaccination not be required as a condition of international travel, maintaining its stance on the issue under growing debate. The independent experts, in a statement issued after meeting last Thursday, cited limited evidence on whether vaccination against Covid-19 reduces people’s ability to transmit the virus and “the persistent inequity in global vaccine distribution”. States should recognise that requiring proof of vaccination deepens inequities and promotes unequal freedom of movement, the panel said. Reuters
Chad's President Idriss Déby has died suddenly in clashes with rebels in the north of the country at the weekend, the army has said on state TV. A military council will govern for the next 18 months. Déby came to power in an armed uprising in 1990. He had gone to the front line at the weekend to visit troops battling rebels based across the border in Libya. BBC

Nick Agule Within the last week a war of words has ensued over the management of the Nigerian economy with Gov Obaseki of Edo State firing the first salvo by accusing the FG of the catastrophic management of economy alleging that the FG is printing money to fund federal allocations. PRESS RELEASE Transforming Uplifting and Reforming Nigeria (TURN) is concerned about the indebtedness of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China and the reported enslaving terms of conditions which Nigeria agreed to in order to secure the loans.
