According to Reuters, Indonesia senior ministers told a news conference that the travel restrictions will take effect on Monday and reevaluated every two weeks. Britain, Germany and Italy detected cases of the new Omicron coronavirus variant on Saturday and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new steps to contain the virus, while more nations imposed restrictions on travel from southern Africa. The discovery of the variant has sparked global concern, a wave of travel bans or curbs and a sell-off on financial markets on Friday as investors worried that Omicron could stall a global recovery from the nearly two-year pandemic. Israel said it would ban the entry of all foreigners into the country and reintroduce counter-terrorism phone-tracking technology to contain the spread of the…
Queen Elizabeth II apparently only picks up her phone for two people. Not only does the queen have a limited list of people she'll pick up the phone for, she also has a phone packed with "anti-hacker encryption," royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti revealed during a recent episode of the "Royally Us" podcast. "Apparently the Queen has two people who she speaks to the most on her phones, and she also apparently has a mobile phone, which is said to be [a] Samsung packed with anti-hacker encryption by MI6 so nobody can hack into her phone," Sacerdoti said. "But the two…
The discovery of a new coronavirus variant named Omicron triggered global alarm on Friday as countries rushed to suspend travel from southern Africa and stock markets on both sides of the Atlantic suffered their biggest falls in more than a year. The World Health Organisation (WHO) said Omicron may spread more quickly than other forms, and preliminary evidence suggested there is an increased risk of reinfection. Epidemiologists warned travel curbs may be too late to stop Omicron from circulating globally. The new mutations were first discovered in South Africa and have since been detected in Belgium, Botswana, Israel and Hong…
Following a ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday declaring bandits as terrorists, the Nigerian Air Force is set to deploy Super Tucano aircraft in the Northwest and Northcentral regions of the country, especially in Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states. The military had been reluctant to deploy the aircraft outside the Northeast because of the conditions attached to the sale of the aircraft by the United States, which was anchored on human rights. But top sources in the military said the coast had become clear to deploy the Super Tucano aircraft against bandits in the Northwest…

Three weeks after the Santa Barbara wellhead failed, it is still blasting water, gas and oil across Nembe in Nigeria’s Delta, littering the shoreline and water with yellow-brown clumps of waste as cleanup crews and booms struggle to contain it. Santa Barbara wellhead owner Aiteo Eastern E&P, the petroleum minister and Nigeria’s president have all promised that specialist workers would quickly stop the spill. But experts say the difficulties containing it are a reminder of how the once-fertile, fish-filled creeks, mangrove swamps and waterways that crisscross Nigeria’s Delta became some of the most polluted areas on the planet amid decades…

Nigeria has lifted restrictions on Emirates airline flights, the aviation minister said on Friday. In March, Nigeria suspended Emirates from flying into or out of its territory after the carrier imposed additional Covid-19 test requirements on passengers from Nigeria. "Having done that it is necessary to lift the ban on Emirates. This subsequent lifting of ban is a product of lengthy negotiations between us and them." Reuters
