FIRS raked in N3.3 trillion in 2016

Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) made N3.303 trillion in 2016, its chairman Babatunde Fowler disclosed in Lagos, shredding earlier reports of the revenue made for the central government by the agency. Earlier reports had said the agency only raked in between N1.2 trillion and N2trillion for the year, as against N2.92trillion made in 2015. The new figure reported by Fowler shows that the agency beat 2015 figure, but failed to meet the N5billion target set by the Federal Government for the 2016 budget. Fayose at finance ministry, demands payment of N1.1bn allocation

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday visited headquarters of Federal Ministry of Finance and demanded release of the state’s N1.1bn budget support facility for the month of January. Fayose visited the ministry and requested to see the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, over the non-payment of the allocation but was told that the finance minister was at the Presidential Villa attending the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting. Speaker Yakubu Dogara on Wednesday mourned the passing of a lawmaker from Katsina State, Bello Sani. Mr. Sani, who until his death represented Mashi/Dvisi Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, died Wednesday morning. More hardship for Nigerians as inflation rate hits 18.72%

Hopes that the Consumer Price Index which measures inflation would reduce soon following promises by government were dashed as the index increased by 18.72 per cent (year-on-year) in January 2017. National Bureau of Statistics in its CPI report released on Wednesday in Abuja said the 18.72 per cent rise in inflation rate is 0.17 percentage points higher than the18.55 per cent recorded in December 2016. Nigerian returnees from Libya have appealed to federal and state governments to provide job opportunities for Nigerian youths to prevent them from endangering their lives looking for greener pasture abroad. Up to $100 billion lost from oil militant attacks - FG

Fayose accuses FG of withholding Ekiti allocation

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose yesterday decried the withholding of the state’s allocation and the monthly Budget Support Fund due to the state for January by the Federal Government.
