Herdsmen have reportedly invaded Ohovbe Primary School in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo, disrupting academic activities.

It was learnt that the herdsmen entered the school, which was not fenced, on Tuesday morning.

They were said to have led their cows into one of the classrooms, a development which forced the pupils and teachers to flee for safety.

The incident was said to have lasted for about one hour before the cows were later taken out of the classroom.

A source in the area alleged that the herdsmen had not only turned the school into a grazing ground but also used the classrooms as shelter when it rained.

The source, however, decried the state of the classrooms, many of which had no windows and doors.

Some teachers, who did not want to be named, lamented that the staff and pupils of the school had been subjected to deplorable conditions for many months.

They also alleged that though the activities of the herdsmen had been reported to the State Universal Basic Education Authority, nothing had been done to solve the problem.

The staff, therefore, called for the intervention of the state government.

Several calls put across to head of SUBEB in the state, Mr Suleman Ali, went unanswered.

He had also yet to respond to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
