President Muhammadu Buhari cancelled the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting earlier scheduled for Wednesday.

A top Presidency source told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that the FEC meeting was put off owing to Tuesday's bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by the Nigerian Air Force.

President Buhari also yesterday sent a team to Maiduguri on a condolence visit over the incident which left scores of civilians dead and injured.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, yesterday announced the dispatching of the team in his twitter handle @FemAdesina.

Adesina said the team comprised Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari; service chiefs as well as Ministers of Information and Defence, Lai Mohammed and Mansur Dan-Ali respectively.

"A team from PMB heads for Maiduguri on a condolence visit. It is made of Chief of Staff, service chiefs, ministers of information and defence," the presidential spokesman tweeted.

Our correspondent reports that President Buhari had been absent from office since Tuesday.

The president was in the office briefly on Monday.

He received Cross River State Governor Benedict Ayade at his official residence in Aso Rock on Tuesday.

Findings showed that President Buhari's engagements for this week are "strictly private."
