A couple who were said to be returning to Lagos from a trip to their hometown in Enugu State, were said to have died in auto crash which happened on Monday in Sagamu axis, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in Ogun State.

The couple who were travelling in their black Honda CRV with the number plate KRD933DD, had their three children who were teenagers with them in the Sport Utility Vehicle.

The deceased couple were said to have died instantly at the spot where the accident occurred while one of the children later died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

The remaining two were said to bé receiving treatment in the same hospital.

The remains of the victims of the accident were also said to have been deposited in the morgue of the same hospital.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Clement Oladele, said the ill-fated Honda CRV ran into a moving DAF truck with the number plate, JJJ107XD, from the rear.

He said the probable cause of the accident might be due to overspeeding, due to the impact on the Honda SUV.

Oladele who said the accident occurred around 2pm, also explained that the FRSC had contacted the family of the deceased from one of the contacts on the telephone recovered at the accident scene.

He said, “We have contacted their family from the contacts on one of the telephones recovered from the couple at the scene of the accident.

“We are still expecting them. We learnt the couple and their children were returning from a trip to their home state in Enugu.”

Oladele appealed to motorists to always observe speed limit while driving on the highway and equally recommended speed limiters to private car owners to check speeding.

He said,”We are appealing to motorists, as we have always done, to always observe speed limit while on the highway.

“They should realise that their trip to wherever they are going is not yet complete until they return to their stations safely.

“I want to recommend speed limiters to those private car owners who cannot control their speed while on the wheel.”
