National Assembly has transmitted a new version of the amendment made to 2010 electoral act to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters (Senate), Mr Ita Enang, confirmed that the bill has been transmitted to the President through his office.

The transmission came three months after the president rejected the earlier amendment made citing constitutional matters.

The report of the conference committee on the new version of the act was passed on June 7, this year before the lawmakers proceeded on three weeks Sallah break.

One of the contentious issues in the rejected bill was the change in election sequence.

Deputy Senate President, Mr Ike Ekweremadu, had while speaking during the passage of the bill on June 7 this year said controversial clauses in the bill had been removed from the new version.

Enang, who confirmed transmission of the bill however declined comment on its content.

“I will not speak on it (content of the bill) because they worked on it in the committee of whole and it was in the eyes of the whole public,” he said on phone last night.
