Buhari to Nigerians: Expect enduring solutions to killings

President Muhammadu Buhari says he understands the seriousness and urgency of the nation's security issues.

The president said his administration was determined to implement carefully considered solutions that would earn the confidence of Nigerians and stand the test of time.

Mr Buhari stated this Monday on his official Twitter account, @MBuhari, after presiding over an expanded meeting of National Security Council.

He said: "Today (Monday), I presided over a meeting of the Security Council. We fully understand the seriousness & urgency of Nigeria's security issues, and are determined to implement carefully considered solutions that will not only earn the confidence of Nigerians, but also stand the test of time."

The meeting held in the wake of incessant killings by suspected herdsmen in parts of the country.

Two days ago, the president was briefed by Department of State Service on the release of three University of Maiduguri lecturers abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Maigumeri, Borno State. Also released were 10 women kidnapped in a raid by the militant group on a military/police convoy on Damboa road near Maiduguri.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr Boss Mustapha as well as Ministers of Defence, Foreign Affairs and Interior were present at Monday's meeting.

In attendance were Chief of Defence Staff, Mr Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Mr Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Mr Sadique Abubakar and the Chief of Naval Staff, Mr Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.

Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris; Director General of DSS, Mr Lawal Daura and Director General of National Intelligence Agency, Mr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar were also present.

Heads ofparamilitary organisations like Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Fire Service and Federal Road Safety Corps were also in attendance.

None of the attendees spoke to State House correspondents after the close-door meeting which lasted over two hours.
