At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me ~ Daniel 4:36.

Preamble:

Seeking the face of our great God and King affectionately is always a wise thing to do, even as we respectfully dine and wine in His court (Psalms 105:4). One very special thing about this is that we may thereby attract the great honour and the excellent majesty in His presence (Psalm 93:1; 96:6).

God doesn't want His people to live in shame and poverty. He rather wishes that we become truly blessed, wealthy and especially majestic. In this regard, He has fully provided for our total deliverance from every seed-plot of defeat and reproach through the vicarious work of Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:13-14).

However, while we seek His face, we must also start to think the way He thinks about us, and readily allow His oil of joy to permeate us thoroughly  (Jeremiah 29:11; Psalms 35:27).

What is honour, and how is it connected to majesty? Honour is the weight of glory that rests upon on an individual; majesty, on the other hand, is the crown of that honour. In other words, majesty speaks of greatness acquired by reason of being in honour.

Majesty is from the root word “magis” (Latin), which means “major”, “more”, or “to a greater degree”. Some other words that flow from that same root are “magistrate” and “magisterial”.

Particularly, the word “magisterial” speaks of the characteristics of a master or a teacher. To be “magisterial” is to be authoritative and/or serenely dignified in appearance or manner. Thus, “majesty” talks of the immensity of dignity, power, and honour.

Majesty implies the state of being worthy of respect. It defines the prestige, distinction, greatness and high rank, which are ascribed to inherent nobility. It’s applied to the exaltedness, pomp and pageantry, royalty and evident splendor that’s common with people — princes and leaders — who are divinely blessed on earth.

Majesty shows its royalty in our manners and appearances, grandeur, stateliness, poise and dignity of carriage. It inspires awe or reverence in the eyes of the beholders. For example, David’s throne was referred to as the throne of the Lord because of the measure of the divine majesty it had attracted (1Chronicles 29:23).

Where divine majesty is, penury and shame are outlawed (Psalm 45:3-4). When majesty is released, an aura of influence is evident; and once the touch of majesty is truly received, the recipients become attracted to supernatural esteem (Job 29:7-11).

In its purest sense, majesty is applicable, though with peculiar modesty, to God and His works (Psalms 104:1). In fact, “majesty” appears to be a “coded name” of God Almighty, wherein He’s referred to as “the Majesty on High” or “the Majesty in the heavens” (Hebrews 1:3; 8:1).

Ours is the God of great majesty, abundant riches and infinite honour (1Chronicles 29:11-12). His touch of majesty is available to all men who walk according to His purpose; and with this touch, any mortal man can begin to soar in honour and greatness.

Solomon was a beneficiary of this gracious touch, and he became renowned for it (1Chronicles 29:25). Even King Nebuchadnezzar, a heathen king, received it and his kingdom glittered with it (Daniel 4:36; 5:18-19).

Please note that this peculiar royal majesty is the character, state or office of a king. Hence, Jesus Christ, the King of kings, also walked in it (2Peter 1:16). He is the heavenly Royalty, and all genuine believers in Him are part of that heavenly royal family (Revelation 5:10)!

However the greatest tragedy is in living blank or ignorant of this bestowal: “Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish”(Psalms 49:20). We must avoid this by walking in the knowledge of the exact process through which God rubs off a part of His Majesty on His chosen men at His will!

Riding Secure In God’s Majesty

Today, basic to this process is genuine salvation through Jesus Christ. Why? Royalty by birth is the surest and sweetest access to majesty (John 1:12). No heart can rest secure in majesty until it has found rest in God’s salvation plan.

In Psalms 21:4-5, a king asked for life and length of days from God, and God responded by giving him salvation. In annotating this, the psalmist said, “His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him”.

Indeed, all genuine children of God, born-again Christians, are recipients of this excellent majesty. The abundant life that we received of God, which is normally bestowed at the point of salvation, is laden with incredible honour and majesty.

Today, by our position in God’s covenant, we live in honour and ride in majesty. God’s cloak of royalty is upon us. Evil cannot exact itself upon us; we supernaturally attract respect, and all the elements of nature work for our good. Amen.

Of course, there’s also the need to abide constantly in God’s presence to ride secure in His majesty (Psalm 84:7-10). No wonder that David said, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD”(Psalm 122:1).

Meanwhile, while there, we must key to God’s majestic voice, be diligent in our work and develop actionable wisdom in our walk with Him (Psalms 29:4; 82:5-6). This was the major miss in the life of King Belshazzar.

Belshazzar failed to apply wisdom when he saw the error in the lifestyle of his father Nebuchadnezzar. Instead of acting differently, he rather chose to walk the same path of error, and he was slain for that foolishness (Daniel 5:18-20; 30). What a fatal oversight!

Furthermore, we must wholly follow the Lord and serve Him, reflecting and duly projecting His honour (Psalm 145:5,12; John 12:26).

Walking in majesty is an act of God, but the experience can only be secured in an atmosphere of holy awe and trembling. King Darius, the successor of Belshazzar, decreed this with a high resounding note (Daniel 6:26-27).

Friends and brethren, please note that there’s virtually no difference between you and the great men and women we read about in scriptures (James 5:17). They achieved their greatness, not because of their backgrounds, but because of what they did with God’s Word (Deuteronomy 28:1-14).

As you walk in total obedience to the Word, the decree is hereby issued: from this moment henceforth, the Lord God of majesty will magnify you, and your glory shall burst forth fully. Not only will you walk in majesty, you shall also begin to ride in it. Supernatural honour is your portion. You won’t miss it, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Happy Sunday!
