Six weeks to the general election, there is anxiety over the expected retirement of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman Daba, three Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), many Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and 290 other policemen in the first quarter of this year. INEC extends deadline for PVC collection

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of permanent voter cards (PVC) till January 29. The commission announced this in a statement on Thursday signed by Festus Okoye, its national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education. INEC had fixed December 12 to January 22 for the collection of PVCs in all the 774 LGAs. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said there are a total of 93,469,008 eligible voters in its voters register after the final cleanup that includes the removal of double registration and underage voters.
